A truly extraordinary community

Our community at St Joseph’s is the beating spirit of our parish and something rather special. With around 1000 worshippers drawn from almost 70 countries and over 70 active groups of some sort, our Parish is truly alive with the beauty of God’s creation and the radiance of his love. From groups that nurture both faith and sacramental preparation through to pastoral outreach within our parish and the wider community, there is an incredible breadth of opportunity to become an active member within our diverse parish family.

Something for everyone
We have so many groups and activities within St Joseph’s that need your help and support. We know that God calls each of us by our name and has created us to do him some definite service. After all, that is why we profess and live our faith in His name - to do the work he has committed to each of us as individuals and no other. We each have a mission and we each bring our own unique and precious gifts to our Brothers and Sisters in our wonderful community.

Our website shows just some of the many groups, but our St Joseph’s Welcome Pack lists all the groups and activities which need your help to keep the parish alive with the vibrant Spirit.

For a more comprehensive insight into the wealth of parish activities, please pick up a copy of our Welcome Pack from the narthex in the Church front porch. It will be available from September 2025.

Taking care of our community

Safeguarding

The safety of all our Brothers and Sisters in the Parish is paramount and is an integral part of the life and ministry of our parish.

Our Parish Safeguarding Reps [PSR] are Mr Andrew Stables & Mr Kevin Thorogood.  They are responsible for guiding new volunteers through the DBS checking process, including seeking references, and taking volunteers through their DBS checks.  They are also responsible for ensuring that three yearly re-checks are carried out for those who remain active in their roles.   They can deal with any general questions on Safeguarding issues, DBS checks and re-checks. You can reach out to them via email using

Finance and Fabric Committee

Canon Law 537 requires that each Catholic Parish has a Parish Finance Committee.  The role of the Committee is advisory, rather than executive. The members of St Joseph’s Committee assist Fr Uche by sharing the burden of administration and ensuring the efficient care of the material goods of a Parish as a means to promoting the pastoral care of the community. Our committee meets three to four times a year with Fr Uche, ensuring that the money is spent in accordance with the purpose for which it was given.

Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)

The PPC is made up of volunteers from the Parish who meet on average three to four times per year.  Our role is to support Fr Uche our Parish Priest in making decisions regarding such matters as Parish Infrastructure, faith development initiatives and charitable fundraising.

Our Marian Garden team

Our Marian Garden beautifully adorns the front of St Josephs’s and we’re always in need of people to help with the watering, general maintenance and keeping it looking radiant. There is also planting near the entrance and to the rear of the church, which needs continuous tender loving care.

Parish Office

The Parish Office is open every weekday (during school term time), from 10am until 1pm. As well as taking care of all administration, the office is usually the first port of call for parishioners seeking answers, advice, information, appointments with the Parish Priest, and sometimes just some pastoral care. We work closely with the Sacristy Team, the Treasurer, Counters, those who allocate Mass Intentions, etc, to support our Parish Priest in the smooth running of the parish.

Our rich multicultural diversity is integral to the distinctive identity of St Joseph’s. We have built an inclusive, welcoming and all-embracing community where the precious gifts and talents of our parishioners are truly epitomised through the rich tapestry of cultures, languages and backgrounds.

Each year in July we come together as Brothers and Sisters from around 70 countries to celebrate our unique cultural personality through our ‘St Joseph’s International Day’ event. This is a joyous feast of great food and company where we prepare a favourite dish from our respective countries for others to enjoy, washed down with wine, juice and refreshing drinks.
